Investors in People Internal Review - More Information
What is Internal Review?
Internal Review is a flexible review option available to recognised Investor in People organisations. It was introduced because recognised organisations identified that they wanted more involvement and ownership of their post recognition reviews. Internal Review works on the principle of a quality assured self-assessment and must be conducted with the full involvement of QSE. We develop your people to a nationally approved standard, providing you with an internal resource to enable you to monitor your own performance, target your resources appropriately and participate more fully in the review process.
What is involved?
Internal Review involves training a number of employees within the organisation to the approved national standard, to enable them to participate in reviews as part of the team led by the external assessor. These Internal Reviewers will:
- Help plan the review
- Gather the evidence
- Report findings
Their input will minimise the amount of time the external Assessor (Managing Assessor) will need to spend on-site. It is the role of the Managing Assessor to both quality assure their work and make the final decision on whether or not the organisation continues to meet the Standard. Internal Reviewers collect evidence towards the official review of their organisation, and are charged with looking after the integrity of the Standard and will need to abide by the rules governing nationally registered assessors.
It is therefore very important that Internal Reviewers are selected, trained and managed carefully and thoroughly. To take on the formal role, they need to undergo the Approved Internal Reviewer 3 day training programme, which is quality assured by IiP UK and delivered by QSE. Approval to participate in reviews is only given after a practical demonstration of skills in a real environment.
What are the benefits?
For organisations recognised as Investors in People, the most evident benefits are a potential longer term reduction in the external assessment time and cost, and the opportunity to develop IiP knowledge and quality auditing skills in-house.
Specific benefits for the organisation:
- Internal capability to drive forward and embed IiP in the organisation’s preferred way
- Enhance motivation through wider involvement of staff
- Sharing of ideas and standardising good practice across the organisation
- Internal advocates with a better understanding of change management and analysis of your organisations effectiveness
- A skilled resource that can be used at any time to monitor the organisations position against the standard as well as carry out reviews with an external assessor
- A demonstration of real commitment to continuous improvement
Specific benefits for the individual:
- Development by skilled and experienced trainers from an IiP UK Approved Quality Centre
- IiP UK attendance and CQL Approved Internal Reviewer certificates
- Enhanced skills in critical analysis, interviewing, planning and feedback
- Enhanced status within the organisation
- Increased involvement and influence within the organisation
- Improved motivation
As every client is different, each training package is individually tailored. Some organisations have no previous experience of Internal Review and others have undertaken some Investors in People training in the past.
The cost of an External Assessor remains at £550 per day plus VAT. However, by using the Internal Reviewers there may be fewer days involved.
